Wisconsin Court Case Update

LATEST NEWS: Status conference on October 10, 2019 at 01:30 pm.

02:49 PM Defendant David S Scharlat in court with attorney Paul E Bucher. Michele W. Hulgaard appeared for the State of Wisconsin. Atty. Bucher advises the court of the status of the case; he has gotten through a good portion of the additional discovery he was previously provided but notes he has been provided some new discovery recently. Atty. Hulgaard advises that counsel is in agreement to adjourning for another status date to allow time for defense to complete reviewing the discovery. Court addresses counsel with regards to its calendar and scheduling a new trial date. Court will adjourn for status in about 60 days but advises counsel that at the next court date it will expect to set new trial dates. Status conference scheduled for October 10, 2019 at 01:30 pm.

Below are past court comments regarding upcoming trial dates:

09:36 AM Defendant David S Scharlat in court with attorney Paul E Bucher. Michele W. Hulgaard and Melissa Zilavy appeared for the State of Wisconsin. Case called to address jury questionnaires and setting motion and briefing dates. Based on the information provided by the jury coordinator the Court will order that the parties provide the Court with either a joint jury questionnaires OR a letter with their own prospective jury questionnaires if they are not able to agree by 06/10/2019. Atty. Bucher advises he plans to file 3 motions and presents statements. Court discusses with counsel off the record briefing and scheduling dates on motions. Court goes back on the record. Court orders the following: Defense to file all their motions by 6/3/19; State to file their response briefs as well as any incamera documents by 6/24/19; and Defense to file their reply briefs, if any, by 7/5/19. All these motions will be addressed at the motion hearing set for July 12, 2019. State must also provide their expert list, if any, by 5/31/19 and IF defense then will need to file a Daubert motion it must be filed by 6/24/19. Court next addresses number of alternates and stikes for the jury trial as well as motions in limine. Court will also order that if either party plans to file any out of the ordinary motions in limine they must be filed no later than 7/8/19 and will also be addressed at the 7/12/19 motion hearing. Motion hearing scheduled for July 12, 2019 at 01:30 pm.
